Washington D.C. – The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus today celebrated the unprecedented passage of the Equality Act. In a bipartisan vote of 236-173 the House passed this landmark legislation which would provide clear, comprehensive anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ Americans in regard to employment, education, access to credit, jury service, federal funding, housing, and public accommodations. The passage of this historic legislation says, unequivocally—to the American people, to our Senate counterparts, and to the President—that LGBTQ Americans deserve the full protections guaranteed under our nation’s civil rights laws. We strongly urge the Senate to follow the House’s lead and pass the Equality Act.

Washington D.C. – The Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus released the following statement in response to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) proposal to eliminate data collection on LGBTQ foster youth and parents. On April 16, 2019, HHS proposed scrubbing data on the sexual orientation of foster youth and foster and adoptive parents and guardians in its Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) data system.

Washington D.C. – LGBT Equality Caucus Transgender Equality Task Force (TETF) members released the following statements in response to the passage of a resolution denouncing the ban on transgender servicemembers. On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed TETF Chair Rep. Joe Kennedy’s House Resolution 124 in a bipartisan vote of 238-185. The resolution rejects President Trump’s ban on openly transgender servicemembers from serving in our nation’s military and urges the Department of Defense to not reinstate the discriminatory policy.

Washington D.C. – The LGBT Equality Caucus Transgender Equality Task Force released the following statement in response to the Department of Defense decision to implement the transgender military ban by April 12, 2019. On Tuesday, the Pentagon officially signed the policy banning transgender Americans from serving in the United States military, despite overwhelming opposition. The policy would not only prohibit transgender people from joining the military, but also prohibit any transgender person in the military from living consistent with their gender identity.
